would you hire an ameteur photographer for your wedding???
I have been into photography as a hobby for the last 6-7 years, and have recently started taking it more seriously.
I have finally upgraded my camera to a new DSLR and im starting to build a portfolio.
A friend suggested offering to do weddings (i would do it at a very ameteur price) to get some more experience/build a stronger portfolio – but I don’t think anyone would hire me..
Let me know if you would trust your wedding photos to someone who is not a professional??

OK.. most of you have echoed my thoughts: wedding is to much of a massive deal to trust to anything less than a professional…
but would you hire someone to do engagement photos??? for a next to nothing fee have the memories of THAT day (or night) without having to think about it???

I think my decision would be based on work I’d seen of the particular photographers. Not just planned work, but also event photos, just to get an idea of how they capture a moment. We’re considering having a cousin and her bf do ours (2 times the opportunities to get it right!) but I think alot of people wouldn’t take the risk.
Get plenty of practise in other events so you have an impressive portfolio for people. Also, you could always suggest to any friends or family getting married that you could come along and take photos (probably no fee) for the experience. If they’ve already hired a pro, then it won’t be detrimental to their album if you go wrong, but they get the added bonus of some potentially awesome extra pics that the pro may not have had time (or the eye) to get.
